Expense Audit Fundamentals
A structured path for approvers who need consistent decisions across messy, real-world workforce claims — including travel, meals, tools, and grey-area reimbursements.
Learning outcomes
- Identify incomplete or conflicting claim fields before approval
- Apply a repeatable red-flag scan to receipts and merchant data
- Write concise decision notes that support later audits
- Choose between soft reject, hard reject, and escalate paths
- Calibrate with peers on ambiguous entertainment claims
Modules
- Claim anatomy — required fields, attachments, and policy hooks.
- Receipt reading — merchant names, timestamps, and duplicate patterns.
- Policy collisions — when two rules both seem to apply.
- Decision notes — templates that stay human and defensible.
- Escalation etiquette — looping compliance without freezing the queue.
- Calibration clinic — live review of edge cases with peers.

FAQ
Do I need a specific expense software to join?
No. Examples reference common field patterns rather than a single vendor. You will map exercises to whatever tool your company uses.
How long does the self-paced path take?
Most learners finish the six modules in 8–12 hours spread over two weeks, plus optional practice on their live queue.
What is a real limitation of this course?
We do not certify you as an auditor under Hong Kong professional standards, and we cannot rewrite your company’s policy for you. If your policy is silent on a category, the course teaches how to escalate — not how to invent rules unilaterally.
Can teams bring real claims?
Yes for Team Ledger cohorts, with personal data removed. Facilitators will refuse samples that still contain employee identifiers.
Reviews for this course
“Module 2’s duplicate-receipt drill caught a pattern we had been missing on ride-hailing claims. Dry in places, but the worksheets earned their keep.”
Used the escalation etiquette script during a tense week of event claims. Saved at least two unnecessary compliance tickets.
